Helping families prepare for the moments that matter
SortedLifeGuide started from a very personal place.
Like many families, my wife and I found ourselves facing a challenge that we had not fully planned for.
We both have ageing parents who live independently, a distance from us. As time moves on, health challenges have meant that we need to start thinking more carefully about the future and about the conversations we need to have.
There are questions about the support that may be needed, and how we can all make decisions that respect everyone’s wishes.
These are not easy conversations. They involve family, independence, health, emotions and difficult choices. Yet these are the conversations that many families eventually need to have and often, they happen later than they should.
Why SortedLifeGuide was created
During this journey, one thing became increasingly clear:
Families don’t need more complexity. They need clarity.
We started looking at how we could organise our own family information, wishes and plans in a way that would make life easier if circumstances changed. This wasn’t just for us but for the people we love.
That thinking became the foundation of SortedLifeGuide.
Planning for every member of the family
Our family journey has also shaped something else that is incredibly important to us.
We have three sons and our household is always busy balancing work and life challenges. Like every parent, we want to make sure that they are supported, understood and cared for in the future according to our wishes. That has made us think differently about planning because Life Planning is not just about documents and checklists.
It is about understanding the people we care about:
- What matters to them?
- What support do they need?
- What decisions might need to be made?
- How can we make sure their voices and wishes remain part of the conversation?
SortedLifeGuide is designed to help families think about these questions earlier.
From a personal challenge to a shared community
Along the way we realised that our experience was not unique.
Many people are quietly navigating similar situations:
- supporting ageing parents from a distance
- balancing work, children and caring responsibilities
- managing health changes within families
- trying to understand later-life planning
- wanting to leave things clearer for those they love
- looking to understand how government policy changes might impact them
We wanted to create a place where people could share experiences, learn from each other and access practical guidance. Our hope is that that by sharing our thoughts we can help to build a community around empathy, understanding and preparation.
Our beliefs and aim
Being “sorted” does not mean having every answer.
Life changes. Families change. Circumstances change.
Being sorted means having:
✓ the right conversations
✓ the right information
✓ the right plans in place
✓ greater confidence about the future
The aim is simple:
To help families reduce future stress by preparing before they are forced to.
Are you ready to start getting life sorted?
Life planning does not have to happen all at once.
Small steps, early conversations and having the right information in place can make a significant difference for you and the people you care about.
Don’t rely on someone else to sort it — you can sort this. Here’s how.
